MEAT CONSUMED IN BRITAIN

INROADS MADE INTO RESERVES , LONDON, Nov. 6. Britain is using up her reserves of meat at the rate of more than 3000 tons a week, states the “Meat Trades Journal.” The article says that 300.000 tons more meat have been consumed this year in Britain tnan in the same period of 1949. To meet this, Increases in home pro. duction and Imports have amounted to 170,000 tons. “Thus we have eaten into reserves to 170,000 tons,” it says. Referring to the deadlock in negotiations with Argentine the article says: "From the latest returns of consumption and supplies it would appear that some further reduction will be necessary in the rate ot consumption before long." In spite of substantially increased shipments from Australia and New Zealand, the gap in supplies could hardly be filled from any other source than South America.

Leading meat traders fear that the British ration will be reduced by 4d to 14d this winter, if a settlement is not reached with Argentina.
