£60,000 JEWEL ROBBERY

Duke Of Sutherland's Home Entered (Rec. 8 p.m.) LONDON, Nov. 6. The Duke and Duchess of Sutherland were robbed last night of jewels worth £60,000 while they sat playing cards with a party of friends.

The robbery took place at a cottage which they own 200 yards from the Duke's mansion. Sutton Place, in the middle of the 1300-acre Sutton Park, Guildford.

The thieves used a fire-escape ladder which they took from a shed. They put it against the roof of the kitchen annexe and climbed through a window into the Duchess's bedroom. The Duke's estate manager said that the two boxes stolen' included family jewels and some of the Duchess's own personal jewels. The robbery is the biggest In Britain since the war.

Alsatian dogs which roam the park at night were not disturbed.
