The Prime Minister (Mr Holland) and Mrs Holland, who have been spending a few days in Christchurch, will leave for Wellington to-night. Miss Lois Holland, who accompanied her parents, will remain in Christchurch until early next week. Lady O'Leary (Wellington) will arrive in Christchurch on Friday with her husband (Sir Humphrey O’Leary) for a visit of about 10 days. Miss Ruth Herrick. Chief Commissioner for Girl Guides in New Zealand, who has been visiting Christchurch, will leave to-night for Wellington on her way to her home in Havelock North. Miss K. Hall, matron of Karltane Hospital, who is leaving soon for a trip to England, was presented with a gift at the annual reunion of the Karitane Nurses’ Association recently. Miss Monica Cocks, who will be assisted by Mrs R. Browning, was appointed the official vijltor to seamen patients in the Cashmere Sanatorium, at a meeting of the Christchurch Ladies’ Guild of the British Sailors’ Society yesterday afternoon. Miss Cocks will replace Miss M. Enright, who resigned from the position last month after many years’ service. The president (Mrs G. W. C. Smithson) presided. The quarterly grant of £25 was passed to the board of directors of the Seamen's Institute in Lyttelton. Arrangements for the bring and buy and com afternoon party to be held at the home of Dr. and Mrs L. MacDougall. Rossall street, during the last week in November were made. Members of the junior branch reported on hiving provided entertainment for visiting seamen. Miss A. L. Loudon, principal of Columba College. Dunedin, has agreed to a request by the college board that her appointment should be extended to the end of the first term next year. Mr Ben Allen. Herefordshire, England. who is on a lecture tour of New Zealand, is the guest of Mr and Mrs C. L. Crowley, Clyde road, Fendalton. Miss Bromley Cocks, who was among honoured guests at the centennial gathering of Giri Guides held at the Sign of the Takahe last evening established a wonderful record of service for the movement. It was recalled last evening that Miss Cocks was connected with Girl Guides since the first company was formed in Canterbury, with the late Mrs Joseph Studhoime as provincial commissioner. Miss Cocks was first treasurer, then she became in turn district commissioner and divisional commissioner and finally provincial commissioner, a post she held for about 15‘years. She finally relinquished office at the end of the last world war. Representatives from every branch of the nursing profession attended a memorial service in Wellington on Sunday for the late Miss E. R. Bridges, formerly Director of Nursing in New Zealand. It was held at the Cathedral Church of St. Paul, the Very Rev D. J. Davies taking the service The Director of Nursing, Miss F. J; Cameron. read the lesson. There were about 230 present. The Department of Health was largely represented by officers and clerical staff, including the Director-General, Dr. J. Cairney. and other divisional directors. The Order of St. John and the New Zealand Red Cross Society were represented, together with many of Miss Bridges' own friends from the lay community. The annual reunion of the Karitane Nurses’ Association was held at Karitane Hospital recently. Those who took part in the enjoyable musical programme were Misses J. Lauder, M. Teller, M. Horne, and P. Buff. Miss C. Pavelotich was the accompanist. During the evening, on behalf of the association, a baby’s play pen was presented to the matron (Miss K. Hall) for use in the hospital. Details of the progress of trainees were given by the matron at the monthly meeting of the board of managers of Strathcona Home Training Hostel. Pleasant Point. One more girl had arrived for training and two other girls were accepted for training at the meeting. During the month 927 school dinners had been provided. The farm committee reported work on the farm and vegetable garden to be well in hand.
