TYRE PRICES
Sir,—As one who just missed my chance of buying two tyres before the rise and now cannot afford them, I would be glad if any of your correspondents could tell me why tyre prices here are so much higher than in England. Is importation still permitted? —Yours, etc., Oct. 30. 1950. R - KING - [The manager of a city tyre retailing company said that England produced tyres in much larger quantities than- New Zealand and was therefore, able to retail them much cheaper. An officer of the Customs Department said that importation of tyres of specified sizes not made in New Zealand was permitted.]
