U.N. FORCES FACE NEW ATTACK
Chinese Join Enemy In Offensive
(N.g. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 10.30 p.m.) SEOUL, November 5. North Korean and Chinese Communist troops launched a new attack from the east against the United Nations forces on the Sinanju front in North Korea to-day. and fierce battles are raging along the line.
At the same time air reports came into American headquarters of a large Chinese Communist truck convoy heading across the Yaluriver into North Korea, and a Chinese Communist broadcast from Peiping pledged Chinese Communist support to North Korea in resisting United States “aggression.” All day yesterday North Korean and Chinese Communist troops continued a fierce offensive against United Nations forces withdrawing to new positions.
Two Communist attempts to break through towards the captured Communist capital of Pyongyang were but General MacArthur’s spokesman said last night that there had definitely been no break-through.
Fierce fighting continued to-day and the Communists are reported to have made some gains.
