VICEREGAL The Governor-General (Sir Bernard Freyberg) received Lieutenant-Colonel J. R. Williams, D. 5.0., and Squadron Leader R. F. Watson, A.F.C., on their appointments as honorary aides-de-camps at “Daresbury" on Saturday morning. Sir Bernard and Lady Freyberg attended the Canterbury Jockey Club's centennial New Zealand Cup meeting at Riccarton. Last evening, their Excellencies attended a centennial service at the Oxford Terrace Baptist Church, where his Excellency read the lesson.
The Prime Minister (Mr Holland) spent the week-end in Christchurch On Saturday he attended the first day of the Canterbury Jockey Club’s meeting at Riccarton, and yesterday he spent at his farm, “Greta Paddocks,” Motunau. He will return to Wellington by the steamer express on Tuesday evening. Telegraph Department officers met in Wellington on Friday evening to bid farewell to the Senior Supervisor, Telegraph Branch. Wellington, Mr B. H. Young, who has retired after more than 40 years’ service with the department.—(PX)
