BRITISH MINERS’ WAGES
Five Shillings Rise Accepted
(Rec. 8 p.m.) LONDON. November 2. Representatives of 610,000 British mine workers to-day accepted the £3,500,000 award offered by the National Coal Board to increase the wages of lower-paid workers. The scheme provides for a 5s a week increase in the minimum adult rate, bringing surface workers to a £5 5s minimum and underground workers to £6 a week. There is no indication that the offer will be accepted by the 7000 Scottish miners still on strike, because they consider the increase too small. They have asked for !2s a week more.
