MORE TAXIS FOR WELLINGTON
ADDITIONAL 36 LICENCES TO BE ISSUED (New Zealand Prtst Association/ WELLINGTON, November 3. The Wellington Metropolitan Licensing Authority -is prepared to issue 36 new taxi licences immediately, the chairman (Mr Stewart Hardy) announced at a sitting to-day. The announcement was made after the Authority had heard a review by the assistant city solicitor (Mr F. H Jones) of the legal proceedings that have taken place this year. Mr Jones said there was now noth ing to stop the immediate issue of the licences. Of the 36 licences, 34 were granted by the Authority on May ?4 fast, and appealed against. The Appeal Authority dismissed all the appeals and granted an additional tw> to aoplicants who had been unsuccess ful before the Licensing Authority.
