SUMMER SPORTS
“RECRUITING” BUREAU OPENED
To give persons an opportunity of joining summer sporting clubs, the Physical Welfare branch of the Department of Internal Affairs yesterday opened a tent in Cathedral square and 40 young men and women called to make inquiries and give *heir names and addresses so that the secretaries of sports organisations i an get in touch with them. The stall will remain open all this week. Last year the branch provided a similar service and 188 persons gave their names. Many of the persons who called yesterday were recent arrivals in Christchurch who did not know now to get n touch with a club in their own suburb. Others were young people who had been interested in sport while at school, but drifted away from it for two or three years and now wished to resume.
All the summer sports bodies are cooperating in the campaign. Most interest yesterday appeared to be in swimming, tennis and softball, but few sports were without a recruit
