MCCORMACK’S BAY
NO INVESTIGATION OF FILLING
“As there seems to be no chance oi constructing the swimming baths or any other type of work in the locality in the next year or two. it is not thought worth while investigating the filling of McCormack’s Bay any further at this time,” the works committee reported to the City Council last evening. The suggestion was that a site for the baths be left at the north-east corner of the bay. At present filling is being carried out at the western end of the bay, where tins etc., are dumped, levelled, and covered from time to time. Some filling is also being done off the bay where the Tramway Board filling was carried out. Sumner refuse is being tipped there, but the work is practically all above high tlC “The amount of filling being done in both places is very small in comparison with the total required in the ultimate ” reported the committee. "The present rate could proceed for very many years without interference with anv baths proposals. Probably considerably more than 100,000 cubic yards of filling would be required in all.”
