CONTRACT BRIDGE TOURNAMENT
N.Z. CHAMPIONSHIPS CONCLUDED MESSRS B. C. BELL AND R. EVANS WIN PAIRS The New Zealand contract bridge championship 'tournament, which was held in Christchurch, ended yesterday with the completion of the pairs championship, which was won by Messrs B. C. Bell and R. Evans, members of the Northern Club, Auckland, which has won all this year’s titles. The winners are members of the team which earlier in the tournament won the team of four event, and they also took the Allard Cup pairs event earlier in the year. Their average points totalled 241.35. Next in order in yesterday’s pairs tournament were Mrs R. R. Bell and Mrs L. Wyles, 232.49 (Crockford’s. Christchurch), Messrs J. F. Martin and W. Dodd, 231.63 (Northern, Auckland), Messrs C. Wilson and L. Stohr. 231.2 (Wellington), and Messrs G. F. Bayley and C. W. Hodsdon, 222.07 (Wellington). The fours championship was won by Mr Bell’s team, with Dr. J. P. McQuilkin’s team (Christchurch) runner-un. Messrs Rex Evans. W. Dodd, and J. F. Martin were the other members of Mr Bell’s team. The next four teams in order were: Dr. J. P. McQuilkin, Mrs H. Ho'der. Mrs T. Armstrong, and Mr D. Somerville (Christchurch), 1327 points; Mr D. McCormick. Mrs R R. Bell. Mrs L. Wyles. Miss P. Norton (Christchurch). 1290; Mr B. P. Wilson. Mrs D. Black. Dr. Wardale. Miss Elliott (Dunedin), ’2834; Mrs G. B. Morgan. Mrs C. Stringer. Miss O. Kerr and Miss S. Fraser (Christchurch). 12674.
