SPORTS WAR MEMORIAL
PAVILION IN RAWHITI DOMAIN CLUBS SEEK FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE The New Brighton sports memorial building proposed to be built in Rawhiti Domain was last evening approved by the City Council as a sports club war memorial for the district. The Memorial Building Fund advised the reserves committee that the original plan &as considered inadequate for the future requirements of the district. Provided the necessary funds could be raised, it was proposed to extend and enlarge the present plans for a building estimated to cost £3OOO and to be built in breeze blocks. The fund asked for authority to use £lOOO on the council’s estimates for the building as the basis on which to apply for a Government subsidy. Collections and grants from sports clubs were £266. A reply has been sent by the council that a sum of money has been provided on the proposed reserves loan towards the cost of erecting a pavilion at Rawhiti Domain, but it is unable to consider the request for financial assistance until such time as the raising of the loan was approved.
