MR G. B. SHAW’S ILLNESS
(Rec. 7 p.m.) LONDON, Sept. 16. Future bulletins on the condition of Mr George Bernard Shaw, who has been in hospital at Luton since Monday, will be “toned down’’ because the 94-year-old playwright insists on listening to broadcasts which include news of his condition.
A late bulletin said that a longstanding kidney ailment had recurred and Mr Shaw was comfortable, but "less well.”
Shipping Freights Increased.—From October 1, a surcharge of 10 per cent, will be imposed on shipping freight rates from Britain and Europe to Australia. Shipping lines say that the surcharge is necessary because of Australian port delays.—London, Sept. 16.
