COLLECTIVE SECURITY
‘Working Force’ For Peace
(Rec. 8 p.m.) LONDON, Sept. 16. Britain should go to the assistance of Jugoslavia if she were attacked, said the Minister of National Insurance (Dr. Edith Summerskill) speaking at Fulham today. She said: “If Jugoslavia were attacked to-morrow and appealed to the United Nations, then if we support the principles of collective security, we should defend Jugoslavia as we are defending Korea. “What we shall get out of this ultimately is that collective security will be established as a working force.” Dr. Summerskill said that Britain was backing collective security and that Korea was the first occasion on which the United Nations had tried it.
“I deplore the fact that newspapers and irresponsible people keep shouting that this is a war against Communism. It is war against unprovoked aggression.”
