IMPORT ADVISORY COMMITTEE

PUBLIC SESSIONS ADVOCATED (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON. September 7. The United Kingdom Manufacturers’ and New Zealand Representatives’ Association. at its conference in Wellington to-day, recommended that the proceedings of the Import Advisory Committee and the permanent Board of Trade, when it was established, should be held in public. The conference agreed that this procedure would be more satisfactory and a much fairer method of handling the business before the committee than the present procedure. The conference agreed unanimously that the alteration of the closing date of the import licensing year from February 28 to December 31 was a most unpopular move, because of industrial arrangements in New Zealand and holidays falling at the end of the year. It considered that the choice of December 31 would cause congestion on the wharves.

A resolution on the subject will be sent to the Wellington Chamber of Commerce.
