PARLIAMENTARY DAY
(From Our Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, September 6. Three more speakers took part in the Budget debate in the House of Representatives this evening. This brings the total to 20. The Senior Government Whip (Mr A. S. Sutherland. Hauraki) drew attention to th<* dangers of Communism. Mr P. G. Connolly (Opposition. Dunedin Central) claimed that the Budget attached rnore importance to money values than to human values. Th? Minister of Defence (Mr T. L. Macdonald), whose speech was interrupted by the adjournment, replied by say’ng that there had been no attempt in the Budget to “administer soothing syrun in the manner that had become traditional over the last 14 years.” He said that the most pressing rehabilitation problems were housing and land sett l em°nt. Mr Macdonald had started to review the activities of the Navy, Army, and Air Force when the House adjourned. In the afternoon, the House discussed Ministerial replies to 22 questions asked by members. The subjects ranged from temporary bousing to the allocation of art union funds. , The annual renort of the Police Department was tabled.
