With the possible exception of the show sale in August, the entry was easily the best this winter Though the entiy was big, Lie sale was sound with prices little different from those of last week, except for the best cows, which were a trifle easier. Steers brought up to £4O 7s 6d, the price secured by G. L. Johns (Culverden). A line of 16 from A.. T. M. Thacker (Okains -Bay) averaged £39. The heifer market was topped by L. Williams (Fox Glacier), who sold one at £3O 17s 6d. Twenty-four from C. B. Thacker (Okains Bay) averaged £26 ss. For cows, H. Inch (Yaldhurst) secured the top price—£27 17s 6d for one. ; STORE CATTLE The yarding of store cattle was large, ; but was made up almost exclusively of l mixed lots of very ordinary quality. The ; small gallery which followed the sale showed interest only in the better grazi iers types, for which there was a good demand at about late rates. A pen of Friesian dairy heifers made £5 18s 6d. DAIRY CATTLE The dairy cattle entry was 65 head, against 110 last week, and was mostly of mediocre quality. Very few heifers were forward. The spring demand from factory suppliers has not yet set in, and prices were about on a par with last week’s very moderate rates. The demand for fat sheep was steady throughout, prices being firm to slightly better than last week. Extra quality wethers made to 102 s, prime 86s to 955, medium 75s to 795, and light from 675. Extra prime ewes made to 755, prime 64s to 695, medium 56s to 60s, and light from 48s. Best quality hoggets made to 945, prime 70s to 78s, and medium 58s to 625. There was little interest shown in store cattle, the yarding consisting of a few pens of poor class. One pen of good steers, three to four-year-old Shorthorn cross, made £2O 7s 6d. Yearlings made from £1 to £8 ss, best quality runners made up to £l7, good sorts £9 to £l2, best vealers £5 17s 6d to £6 18s, and small and medium from £4.
