IMPORT LICENSING AMENDMENTS

The following amendments to the import licensing schedule have been advised by the Customs Department:— Agricultural Implements and Wooden Handles for Tools.—ln cases where these two tariff items were grouped with other items (in the schedule numbered as item 333 (2-3), and item 409 respectively), and importers did not therefore have separate licences for those two items in 19&0, licences for 1951 may be based on the value of 1946 licences, instead of on 19a0 licences, as provided for in the schedule. Artificers’ Tools.—Axes and hammers are to be added to the list of tools approved for importation under licences granted in respect of artificers’ tools, n.e.i., from dollar sources. Zinc Oxide.—The reference to zinc white oxide under item 397 (7) of the schedule does not embrace zinc oxide, which is classed under tariff item 124 (2), but relates to patent zinc white (SZnSZnD) and lithopone. The department advises that persons desiring to import zinc oxide must accordingly make application for a licence under item ex 124 (2). Frames for Women’s Handbags.—The references to frames for women’s handbags under item 148 (3) are to be deleted. A special sub-heading "frames for women’s handbags IC” is to be included under tariff item 356 (1) (c), and the item added to the list of excluded goods in the main heading.»
