ARTHUR LARSEN BEATS HERBERT FLAM
(Rec. 10 p.m.) NEW YORK, Sept. 5. Arthur Larsen to-day won the United States national lawn tennis singles championship, defeating Herbert Flam. 6-3, 4-6, 5-7, 6-4, 6-3. Mrs Margaret Osborne Dupont won her third successive national women’s championship, when she defeated Miss Doris Hart. 6-3, 3-6, 6-3. She also defeated Miss Hart in last year’s final. Miss Hart played a competent game, but could not match Mrs Dupont’s dazzling performance.
Mrs Dupont served powerfully and accurately, her ground strokes were superb, and she got close to the net for many winning placements. In the mixed doubles final Mrs Margaret Dupont and McGregor beat Miss Doris Hart and Sedgman, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.
