ACCIDENTS
MAN BREAKS NECK FALL FROM PARALLEL BAR (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, August 29. A man broke his neck when he fell from parallel bars in the Te Awamutu Young Men's Institute gymnasium at Te Awamutu to-night. He was Harold Mercer, aged 42, married, with two children. Mr Mercer, who was not a member of the institute, went to the gymnasium to watch boxers practising. While trying to do an exercise on the parallel bars he fell 3ft Sin from a horizontal position on to the mat on the floor and broke his neck. Two doctor£ who were called gave treatment without success. * CYCLIST SUFFERS HEAD INJURIES Ronald Stanley Phillips, of 434 Cashel street, suffered head injuries when his bicycle ran into the back of a stationary truck in Cashel street last evening. , He was admitted to the Christchurch Public Hospital at 8.15 p.m., where his condition was reported as satisfactory..
