SMART SPRINT BY RESOLUTE

Resolute gaxoiped attractively over half a mile on tne trial grass at Riccarton yesterday, tmishing two lengths ahead of Dark Courage and recording 43 4-ssec. Flying Orders and Trinidad are engaged in the Antonios Handicap at Reefton on Saturday, and both may race prominently. Trinidad showed marked promise in his early racing last season, and he appears to oe well forward. High Spirits should race well in the Boatman's Hack Handicap at Reefton. Beaumaris, Peridot, and Royalcille ran half a mile in 52sec, finishing practically together. Peridot is not a certain starter in the County Handicap at Reefton. but there is notning wrong with him. Another representative of J. S. Shaw's stable in tlje field is Fyxen. which will be ridden by G W. Mein. Fyxen raced consistently in hack fields at the Grand National meeting. Marauder and a Wild Chase filly, a three-quarter sister to Rival Chase, sprinted half a mile in 51 2-ssec. Twenty horses- will leave Riccarton tonight for Reefton, they being members of J. S. Shaw's, E. J. Jennings’ and R. Wi’son s teams. C. T. Wilson will ride Grand Fox, Winslow Boy, and Plume d’Or on Saturday; R. W. Gould will be on Hurstmere, and D. M Kerr on Trinidad. M. J. Wadley will race Valley Gold. Reflect, and Moonsail at the Westport meeting on September 9 and 11. Detention is in steady work and he will race next at Ashburton. He worked keenly at three-quarter pace on the trial grass yesterday.
