NORTH CANTERBURY COMPETITIONS The North Canterbury Miniature Rifle Association concluded its season’s shooting recently with the annual championship meeting on the Kaikoura Club's range. The number of entries was very satisfactory. There were 19 teams and 105 individual competitors in the men's section, and four teams and 16 individual competitors in the women's matches. Scoring generally failed to reach last year’s high standard by a considerable margain. Arrangements for the meeting were made by the Kaikoura Club. Trophies won in the winter tournament and at the championship meeting were presented by the president of the association (Mr T. M. Whittington). Results were:— Teams’ Match.—Kaikoura No. 1 (J. A. Forde 79, G. Burrows 78, H. McLean 76, J. F. Orchard 77, R. Kissel 79, total 389). 1; Scargill No. 1 (R. St. John 80, E. L. Gibb 76, H. Whittington 77, T. Baxter 79. E. G. Gibb 76, total 388), 2. Special prize for best score by 'a team of competitors not in A grade: Scargill No. 2 (G. Pannett 77, A. Harrison 78, W. Elliot 79, J. Gardner 76, A. Gardner 74, total 384). Individual Championship.—First place was won by W. F. Anderson (Waiau) with the possible, 80. T. Smellie and D. Mason (Hawarden), with 79.6 each, shot off for second and third places Mason winning with 79.'6, Smellie scoring 78.3. H. Whittington (Scargill) and J. Orchard and R. Kissel (Kaikoura) shot off for fourth place, Whitttington winning with 79.5. Orchard scored 78.6 and Kissel 77.5. Grand Aggregate Championship.—Combining the scores in the teams and individual matches, R. Kiss''l and D. Mason tied for first place with 158.12, and in the shoot-off Mason won with an 80.6 possible. Kissel secured second place with 78.6. Third money was taken by W. F. Anderson (Waiau) with 158.11, and R. St. John (Scargill) was fourth with 157.13. Women’s Teams’ Match.—Waiau (Mrs J. K. Forbes 72. Miss M. McKie 75, Mrs A. McLean 78, Mrs J. Palmar 75, total 300), 1; Waikari (Mrs F. Shadbolt 79, Mrs W. Atkinson 74, Miss M. Whyte 75, Miss L. Cooms 70, total 298), 2. Womens individual championship: Mrs A. McLean (Waiau), 79.4, 1. Mrs Shadbolt (Waikari) and Mrs Forbes (Waiau) each scored 78.5, and shot off for second and third place. Mrs Forbes taking second with 78.5 and Mrs Shadbo’t third with 78.4. Woman’s Grand Aggregate Championship.—Mrs F. Shad b olt (157.11), 1; Mrs A. McLean (Waiau), 157.7, 2. Snenial prize for best individual scorer not in A grade:—G. Pannett (Scsrgill). 79.4. Special prize for best aggregate score bv a competitor not in A grade: W. Elliott (Seargill), 157.10. Best score by a married couple at the meeting: A. McLean and Mr?,McLean (Waiau). 304.12.
