OBITUARY
MRS F. E. SUTTON Mrs F. E. Sutton, a former Mayoress of Lyttelton for periods totalling 15 years, died yesterday morning after a long illness. During her husband’s term of office Mrs Sutton, in spite of a physical affliction, worked arduously for various social services in the port and for patriotic purposes in the Second World War. She was president of the Lyttelton Sub-centre of the Red Cross, a vice-president of the Lyttelton Plunket Society, and president of the Lyttelton Ladies’ Swimming Club. Mrs Sutton was a daughter of the late Mr and Mrs G. B. Toomey, of Lyttelton, and was born in Lyttelton. During the depression Mrs Sutton was well-known for her generosity and work on behalf of the unemployed. She was a member of Holy Trinity Church and showed great fortitude in her long illness, being untiring in her work for social services.
Mrs Sutton is survived by her husband, two sons. Messrs F. I. Sutton, Sumner, and R. G. Sutton, Lyttelton, and two daughters. Mesdames L. N. Dingle. Te Kauwhta, and H. E. Keys, Christchurch.
