DESIGNING SURGICAL EQUIPMENT
DUNEDIN MAN ACQUIRES HIGH QUALIFICATION [From the 'London Correspondent of “The Press”] LONDON, July 25. By passing the examinations of the Institute of British Surgical Technicians, Mr Herbert G. Harris, of Dunedin, has become the institute’s first New Zealand licentiate, and the only man in the Dominion qualified to write the letters L.1.8.5.T. after his name. The course is a severe one and entails three years of study, although Mr Harris was given a special dispensation to enable him to sit the examination after only six months in England. The course covers most aspects of surgery, hospital work, all instruments and appliances and their design and fitting. Licentiates are qualified to design instruments and equipment, but only to the directions of qualified doctors.
Mr Harris is a registered male nurse, and has been studying for the examinations for many years in Dunedin. After further hospital experience in England, he will fly' to New Zealand next month.
