U.S. NEWSPAPER STRIKE

UNIONISTS TO VOTE , ON SETTLEMENT (Rec. 10 p.m.) NEW YORK, August 19. An agreement ending the strike of members of the Newspaper Guild against the New York "World-Tele-gram and Sun” was reached to-day. The terms of the agreement will be voted on by members of the guild on Tuesday. The strike has stopped the publication of the newspaper since June 13. because members of the mechanical unions refused to cross the picket lines of the Newspaper Guild.

RUSSIA BOYCOTTS U.N. COMMITTEE

NEW YORK. August 18. Russia to-day boycotted the special committee which examines information from non-self-governing territories. It was the thirty-first United Nations body boycotted by Russia and the first against which such action has been taken since Russia’s return to the Security Council oh August 1. The committee which to-day had its first meeting of the year, wag strongly supported by Russia last year. There is no immediate explanation of the boycott of the special committee which is not directly concerned in

the Chinese representation issue because it has no delegate from Nationalist China.

World Cycling Title.— Jack Hoobin. of Australia, to-day won the world amateur road race cycling championship of 110 miles. His time was 4 hours 29 minutes. He won by a wheel.— August 19.
