POLIOMYELITIS IN BRITAIN
(Rec. 11 p.m.) LONDON. Aug. 19. Infantile paralysis killed 218 persons in Britain this year, up to August 12. compared with 98 for the corresponding period of 1949. There were 1565 cases up to August 12. compared with 707 in the corresponding period last year.
The Isle of Wight, off the south coast, is Britain’s worst-affected area in the present outbreak. It had 38 cases and 11 suspects yesterday.
