OFFICIAL FORECASTS “The Press” Special Service WELLINGTON, July 31. The weather forecast for Canterbury, issued at 9 p.m. by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, and dealing with the 20 hours following the time of issue, is as follows: Situation: an anti-cyclone is centred over tie North Island. Forecast: lig't to moderate winds from a northe~ly quarter; weather ’air or cloudy, with patches of morning fog; temperatures co,.’ to moderate. WEST COAST The forecast for the West Coast of the South Isiand is:— Moderate northerly winds predominating; weather cloudy, with scattered drizzle or rain, chiefly in the south; temperatures cool. CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER The day in Christchurch yesterday was fine, but foggy in the nioxning. .The maximum temperature was 53.9 degrees. At midnight the sky was overcast, and there was no wind. The temperature was 33.2 degrees. The barometer, at 33.301 inches (1026.1 millibars), was rising unsteadily. Rainfall for 24 hours ended 1 a.m. ..
