PARLIAMENTARY DAY

NOTICES GIVEN OF QUESTIONS IMPREST SUPPLY BILL TO BE TAKEN TO-DAY (From Our Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, June 28. Seven or eight Opposition members rose almost together in the House of Representatives this afternoon when Mr Speaker asked if there were any notices of motion or questions. “They’ve been saving them up for 14 years,” commented the Prime Minister (Mr Holland) as Labour members began to give notice of questions they had reserved for the opening of the first session of Parliament.

Twenty-two notices of questions which were given by 17 Opposition members occupied most of the formal business of the House. Some members gave notice of more than one question, and two petitions were presented. The first business when members of the House of Representatives returned from the Legislative Council Chamber was the swearing-in by Mr Speaker of two members who were not present p*i the previous day. They were Mr W. A. Hudson (Labour. Mornington) and the new Government member for Palmerston North (Mr W. B. Tennent).

After the flood of notices of questions subsided, Mr Holland informed the House that the Imprest Supply Bill would be taken to-morrow afternoon.

On Friday the House will pay tributes to former members of the House of Representatives and the Legislative Council who have died—Mr P. C. Webb, formerly Minister of Labour; Captain H. M. Rushworth, a former Country Party member for the Bay of Islands; Mr L. Mcllvride, a former Labour member for Napier; and two Legislative Councillors, Mr G. R. Hunter (Christchurch) and Mr W. H. Mclntyre (Euller). Mr Holland said that the House would then adjourn to 7.30 p.m. on Tuesday, when the only speakers would be the mover and seconder of the Address-in-Reply motion, Mr Tennent and Mr T. L. Hayman (Government. Oamaru). It was then proposed to adjourn until 7.30 p.m. on Wednesday, when he expected that the Leader of the Opposition (Mr Fraser) would reply. The House adjourned at 3.35 p.m.
