DENIS COMPTON’S HEALTH
LEG OPERATION IN THREE DAYS EFFECT ON CHANCES OF TEST PLAY (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 8 p.m.) LONDON, May 30. “Harley street specialists give 50 to one against Denis Compton playing in the Australian Test tour,” says the “Daily Mail.”
“With fluid on the knee, he will be operated on within three days, putting him out of cricket at least until August. “This means that he definitely will not play in the tests against the West Indies—and, worst news of all for England’s cricketing hopes, the doctors give only two years before the knee joints become permanently stiff.”
