BRITISH PETROL DECISION
LACK OF ADVICE TO NEW ZEALAND MINISTERIAL INQUIRY TO BE HELD (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 9.30 p.m.) LONDON, May 30. According to the “Daily Express,” British Ministers and high-ranking officials in Whitehall will hold an inquiry this week to determine why the New Zealand Prime Minister (Mr Holland) was not told in advance of Britain’s decision to abolish petrol rationing. Officials said last night that the usual procedure for telling the Commonwealth Governments of British Cabinet decisions should have been followed in the case of petrol rationing, but Ministers and high-ranking officials wanted to know where the breakdown occurred. The usual procedure was for the Secretary of State for Commonwealtn Relations (Mr Patrick Gordon Walker) personally to inform the Dominion High Commissioners. The “Daily Express” adds that the final arrangements on petrol were made hurriedly in Downing Street on Thursday night so that they could be announced before the Whitsun holiday week-end.
