TRAMWAY BOARD’S REVENUE
DECREASE IN APRIL The importance of special sporting events to the Christchurch Tramway Board was shown in a statement of the board's finances presented to a meeting yesterday. Comparing the traffic revenue for the four weeks ended April 23 with that of the same period last year, it was reported that there was a decrease of £847. There was one fewer trotting meeting this year, and this the board estimated accounted for £2BB of the decrease, and five fewer speedway fixtures, accounting for £4OB. In the period reviewed the deficiency was £7209 (an increase of £2860), making the deficiency so far in this financial year £7209. an increase of £2860 on that at the same time last year. Total revenue decreased by £224 to £26,347, while both operating expenses and standing charges increased, the former by £2474 to £27.072, and the latter by £162 to £6484. Fewer passengers were carried—--1.610,591 compared with 1,693,960 — and mileage increased by 4016 to 262,373.
