CHALLENGE OF COMMUNISM
VIEWS OF BISHOP OXNAM CHURCH CO-OPERATION SUGGESTED (Rec. 10 p.m.) NEW YORK. May. 25. Protestant and Roman Catholic cooperation to meet the challenge of Communism was urged by the Methodist Bishop of New York (Dr. G. Bromley Oxnam) to-night. He said: “Communism is an ideology that cannot be bombed out of the
heads of men. It must be met by an ideology equally dynamic. Christianity is such an ideology.” Bishop Oxnam said he hoped that the Roman Catholic hierachy in the United States might confer soon with Protestant church leaders on the world situation. He was sure the major Protestant denominations would gladlv apooint representatives io sit with such leaders as Cardinal Spellman, of New York, and Archbishop Cushing, of Boston.
