IMPORT LICENCES
Sir.—lf the assertions contained in “National’s” letter.are correct, and Mr Nash’s comment actual fact, then a full and searching inquiry into the issuance of special import licences is called for, and immediate steps should be taken to prevent a recurrence of the alleged irregularity. Should proof of unauthorised action by any officers of the Customs Department be established, the removal from office of the party or parties concerned is Mr Bowden's obvious course, together with a full statement from him of exactly what transpired between December 1 and 13 last. Politicians often forget that they are public servants; statesmen never do.—Yours, etc., LIBERALITE. May 26, 1950.
