Shirley Warren, aged 13, of Pitcairn Island, arrived in Wellington by the Rangitiki this week to undergo an appendicitis operation. Shirley Warren had not previously left Pitcairn Island. Her illness was diagnosed bv the surgeons of two ships which called at Pitcairn in recent months. Both doctors advised that she should be sent to New Zealand for an operation. Nine days ago she was rowed out from the island to the Rangitiki in a surf-boat. She is accompanied by Mrs E. Christian and Mr K. Christian, both of whom have visited New Zealand previously. Mrs Christian is in New Zealand to be tested for spectacles.
