BOOM REPORTED BY “ DAILY EXPRESS ” RECORD PRODUCTION AND AVERAGE WAGES (Rec. 9 p.m.) LONDON, May 25. “Britain is now experiencing the biggest boom in its industrial history,” says the financial correspondent of the “Daily Express.” “Never before have so many goods rolled off the production lines, and so many people been in jobs. “Factories representing every major British industry are handling record orders, and those which reported their accounts for the first four months of 1950 showed increased profits.
“Exports were up by £71.000.000 on the first four months of 1950. at £689.000.000. The gold and dollar reserves, which increased by £ 105.000.000 to £708.000.000 for the first quarter, are certain to show a further gain in the current quarter.
“The labour force is now 22,252.000. with unemployed at the token figure of 380,000. Workers are taking home a record average weekly wage of £6 Is 9d, while national savings are at the fabulous total of £6.134.000.000."
