BARGE TRAFFIC IN GERMANY
RESTRICTIONS APPLIED IN SOVIET ZONE (Rec. 9 p.m.) BERLIN. May 24. The British Commandant in Berlin. Major-General G. K. Bourne, to-day sent a letter of protest to the Russian authorities accusing them of violating the Four Power agreement for unrestricted communications between Berlin and West Germany by holding up barge traffic. The letter referred to the hold-up of more than 60 barges, some for more than two weeks, at the Soviet Zone control point at Wittenberg on the Elbe and requested Soviet action for their immediate release.
