TRADE CLASSES FOR ARMY TRAINEES
NO LEAVE TO BE GRANTED (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, May 25. No special leave to attend evening trade classes during the week will be granted to 18-year-old Army trainees in the Northern Military District. This was stated by the district’s Chief of Staff (Lieutenant-Colonel H. G. Wooler) in reply to a request from the principal of the Seddon Memorial Technical College (Mr H M. Scott). Information that the trainees would be granted week-end only was received with concern at to-day’s meeting of the college board. “There are about 40 of our students involved and there are probably not enough in each group to hold lectures' in camp,” said Mr Scott. It was felt that in most cases the students would lose a year’s instruction and that they would probably lose interest too.
