VICEREGAL WELLINGTON. May 25. The Governor-General (Sir Bernard Freyberg) this morning received the High Commissioner for Canada (Mr Alfred Rive) and the Hon. R. W. Mayhew. Mr William Grant has been appointed a member of the Timaru District Licensing Committee, according to a Gazette notice last night. He replaces the late Mr D. Grant.— (F.0.0.R.) Mr C. L. Malov. M.Sc., A.M.T.M.E. has been appointed head of th? engineering department of the Soddon Memorial Technical College. He is at present on the staff of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research as deputy-director of the Dominion Physical Laboratory at Lower Hutt, and officer in charge of the building research and general physics division. Mr Maloy will take up his duties at the beginning of the third I term.— (P.A.) I Constable E. G. Dwen, who has been l attached to the Christchurch central [ police station, has resigned from the ! Police Force to take up farming in 1 Tuakau. He was bidden farewell by i members of the force at the central police station yesterday.
