PROVISION OF FACILITIES
COMPANY BLAMED FOR DELAY
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON. May 25. The delay in providing facilities at Evans Bay for the Wellington-Sydney flying-boat service has been blamed on Tasman Empire Airways. Ltd., by the Commissioner of Works (Mr E. R. McKillop). In a memorandum to the Director of Civil Aviation (Mr E. A. Gibson) Mr McKillop says: “It is difficult to understand the tardiness of Tasman Empire Airways in submitting firm proposals for base requirements if the company is as anxious as it is stated to begin a flying-boat service from Evans Bay.” A copy of the memorandum was sent to the Wellington Harbour Board and when it was discussed at the monthly meeting of the board last night, Mr R. L. Macalister said: ‘‘lf Tasman Airways had been genuine, we could have had a base years ago —but they never want'd to.” “We are getting down to a basis of agreement now." said the Minister in charge of Civil Aviation (Mr W. S. Goosman) this afternoon, commenting on the negotiations for the starting of the services. “Negotiations are continuing and it is hoped to reach finality soon.”
