OFFICIAL FORECASTS “The Press” Special Service WELLINGTON. Mav 25. The weather forecast lor Canterbury issued at 9 p.m. by the Meteorological Office. Wellington, and dealing with the 20 hours following the time of issue, is as follows: Situation.—An intense anti-cyclone lies to the east of New Zealand. A de p depression is moving towards southern New Zealand from the north-west. Forecast to 5 p.m.: north-west winds, developing to gale force in exposed places. Rain in the ranges and foothills. Some brief rain elsewhere, but mainly fair and very warm. Further outlook: fair and warm. WEST COAST The following is the forecast for vie West Coast of the South Island:— Strong to gale force winds. Weather dull, with widespread heavy rain. Temperatures, mild. CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER The day in Christchurch yesterday was warm and sunny, with a light north-west wind. Tne maximum temperature was 58.5 degrees. At midnight the sky was overcast and there was a fresh north-east wind. The temperature was 53. S degrees and the barometer at 29.814 in (1009.6 millibars), was falling.
