COMMUNISTS IN CHINA

RELATIONS WITH BRITAIN BROADCAST REPORT LONDON, May 23. A British Foreign Office spokesman admitted to-day that Britain had received. about a fortnight ago, a statement from the Chinese Communist Government listing the conditions under which diplomatic representation could be arranged between the two countries. Until to-aay, the Foreign Office had denied that it had received anything from Peiping about diplomatic relations. but the conditions listed by the Chinese Communists were broadcast by the Peiping radio last night. They include British support for the dispatch of a Chinese Communist delegation to the United Nations, and the prompt handing over of 71 former Chinese Nationalist aircraft being held in Hong Kong until their ownership —Chinese or American—is established. A British spokesman said that it was likely that a statement on the position would be made to-morrow in the House of Commons. Reuter's correspondent in Hong Kong states that the Chinese radio quoted a spokesman of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs as saying that the Communist Government considers as unsatisfactory the explanations so far given bv the British representative in Peiping regarding relationship between the British Government and the “remnant of the reactionary clique of the Chinese Kuomintang.” The Chinese spokesman said: “It is completely necessary to ask the British Government to clarify further its position with regard to the inconsistencies between its declarations I and its actions.” 1
