MAN SHOT IN ARM BY POLICE
CAPTURE AFTER CHASE
(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND. May 19. Five men pleaded ■ uilty and one not guilty to a series of charges involving breaking and entering and theft or breaking and entering with intent to commit a crime when they appeared before the Magistrate (Mr J. H. Luxford, S.M.) in the Magistrate’s Court. One of the men, Taki Tairua. aged 25, a bootmaker, told how in the early hours of May 1 he was shot in the arm and captured after a high-speed nursuit by police of a £lOOO car he had taken.
The five accused who pleaded guilty, including Tairua, were committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. The sixth man was committed for trial.
