COAST TRAWLER’S BIG FISH CATCH
MORE THAN 16.000L8 IN THREE DAYS From Our Own Reporter GREYMOUTH. April 28. A continued spell of fine weather has enabled large catches of fish to be made off the West Coast. A Greymouth trawler, the Georgina, this week made one of the biggest catches in West Coast waters, and possibly in New Zealand, when she brought in more than 12,0001 b of fish. Two years ago a Wellington report credited the 500-ton trawler Maimai with a New Zealand record when she brought in 70001 b of fish from three days’ fishing off Cape Campbell. About the same time the new Greymouth trawler Coaster made a successful haul in West Coast waters. It landed between 350 and 400 groper, but more than 50 groper, which worked free from the hooks, were left floating on the water because the fishermen had no time to bring them aboard to add to their .16,0001 b cargo. The Georgina’s catch comprised mainly tarakihi and flat fish, which were caught in a three-day expedition.
