GIRLS’ MARCHING

END-OF-SEASON DISPLAY AT SHOW GROUNDS The first large-scale girls’ marching display in Christchurch since early November, when the Canterbury championships were held, took place yesterday when 15 teams participated in an end-of-season display at the Addington Show Grounds. The display gave a number of newlyestablished teams a chance to show their marching and also compensated to some extent for the disappointment df the natio lai championships on March 11, which had to be held indoors because of’ bad weather. There was an attendance of about 3500.

The display opened with a march past of all teams, the salute being taken by the president of the Christchurch Marching Association (Mr A. W. Fergus). A short marching display was then given by each of the teams taking part—Braemar, Shirley, Pirates, Whipsters, Blue Star, Papanui, Highlanders, Lane, Walker, Rudkin, Stacey and Hawker, Celia, Tui. Caledonian. D.1.C., N.Z. Farmers, and Kaipoi Kilties. A combined marching display was given by the Blue Star and Papanui teams, and an exhibition march was given by the Pirates team, the holder of the Canterbury championship.

Music was played by the Canterbury Caledonian Society Pipe Band.
