BY-ELECTION IN BRITAIN
CAMPAIGN FOR MOSS SIDE SEAT LONDON, March 5. Campaigning in the Moss Side division of Manchester, where the election of a member of the House of Commons was postponed until March 9 after the death of the Conservative candidate. Squadron Leader E. L. Fleming, is proceeding vigorously.
Both the Labour and Liberal candidates, who had largely expended their allowance of election expenses during the main campaign, are now left with very little money to finance further efforts. In this respect, Miss Florence Horsbrugh, the Conservative Party’s candidate, is in a very favourable position, for as a new candidate she is permitted to spend her full expenses allowance.
Personalities are being carefully avoided by all three candidates in Moss Side. Miss Horsbrugh is concentrating upon the issue of free enterprise as opposed to nationalisation, and upon housing. The Labour candidate, Mr Roland Casasola, who is an iron moulder by trade, is adhering closely to the Labour brief, with the chief emphasis upon full employment.
