FRENCH TO TEST ROCKETS
MATERIAL BEING SENT TO NORTH AFRICA PARIS, February 14. A Communist-inspired demonstration to-day revealed that France is about to conduct experiments with guided missiles, apparently in the north of the Sahara Desert. About 1000 workers, answering a call from the Communist-led General Labour Confederation, attacked a lorry containing war material and dumped the contents into Nice harbour. Official sources later confirmed that the material was a pylon for a V2 rocket ramp—one of three such pylons being shipped to Oran. The demonstration was called in the belief that the material was being shipped to Indo-China.
British Motor-vehicles— Britain exported more motor-cars, commercial vehicles, agricultural tractors, and spares in 1949 than ever before. The total value of shipments abroad was £170.000.000. compared with £146 000.000 in 1948.—London, Feb. 14.
