COMPETITIONS CONTINUE In a senior men’s competition match, which was also a ranking match, R. A. H. Howe beat R. G. Pattinson, 6-4, 6-3, for first place. Howe, who is ranked second, was brilliant in patches, and made fewer mistakes than usual. Results of grade play were:— SENIOR MEN Canterbury College v. South Brighton II Singles.—J. B. Bushell lost to A. L. Blackwell, 3-6, 6-3, 1-6; E. D. White beat H. Dymond, 6-3, 8-6; P. W. Murdoch beat W. S. Storey, 1-6, 6-1, 6-4; I. Armstrong beat N. Brydges-Jones, 7-5, 6-1. Doubles.—Bushell and White beat Blackwell and Dymond, 6-3, 6-1; Murdoch and Armstrong lost to Storey and Brydges-Jones, 6-2, 4-6, 4-6. 2 Canterbury College won by 4 matches to United I v. South Brighton I Singles.—R. G. Pattinson lost to R. A. H. Howe, 4-6, 3-6; T. W. Callander lost to A. R. Cant, 1-6, 6-0, 3-6; E. W. Tippins lost to A. K. Neave, 0-6, 3-6; R. J. Telford beat G. E. R. PRIMARY SCHOOLS’ COMPETITIONS ‘ A. successful year for the primary schools tennis competitions was concluded at Wilding Park on Saturday when grade competitions and championships were concluded. Much of the improvement of the players is due to Mr H. Neal, who has coached and managed the players for a number of years. Results of grade competitions were:— Girls A Grade.—St. Joseph’s. B grade; St. Joseph s. „ B ° ys — A grade: North Linwood. B grade: Fendalton. Championship results were:—Girls’ singles, A. Pearce (St - . Joseph’s); runnerup, R Stark (St. Joseph’s). Boys’ singles: G. Dowling (Fendalton); runner-up, T. Harneiss (North Linwood). Girls’ doublesP Stark and P. Ryan (St. Joseph’s); run-ner-up, A. Dennison and A. Tivai (Sacred Heart College). Boys’ doubles: F Edgar and P. Ryan (Loreto College); run-ners-up, P. Blake and M. Casey (Loreto College).

In the annual match between primary and secondary schools played on Saturday, secondary won the boys’ match by 66 games to 59, and orimary won the girls match by 4 matches to 2.
