WHIPSTER MAY WIN MAIN RACE

Fine performers in Whipster, Victory Globe, and Trustee, which did not race on the first day of the Wellington Trotting Club’s meeting last Saturday, should add interest to the Port Nicholson Handicap and the Kia Ora Handicap, the main events for pacers on the programme for the concluding day of the meeting tomorrow.

One of the most promising pacers in his class. Whipster, which has gained two wins and four minor placings in his six starts this season for Mr T. W. Gudsell, may be sent out favourite for the Port Nicholson Handicap, in which he will start from scratch with County Antrim, Culture, Democrat, Minoru, On Approval, Prince Hall, Fitnesse, and Trustee. On the form shown last week, On Approval, Prince Hall, and County Antrim must be respected.

Victory Globe, a consistent performer for Mrs E. McKeon, is nicely placed on the 12 yards mark. Together with Sea Craft, which will start from the 24 yards mark with Black Machine, Victory Globe should be in the picture with Whipster and County Antrim at the finish of the Port Nicholson Handicap. Most of the horses engaged in the Port Nicholson Handicap are engaged in the Kia Ora Handicap, which has attracted other good pacers, including Commander Scott, Baby Grand, Lady Averil, and Maori Horne.

Lady Averil, which was sent out 2-2 in the betting on the Ferry Handicap, g ave _ a , bold display to finish third to Sea Craft and County Antrim, the judge’s margins between the placed horses being a nose and a nose. If she is favoured by the luck in the running, Lady Averil may win the Kia Ora Handicap for Mr R. Lewis. Provision has been made to run the Discovery Handicap in two divisions unless the number of horses on scratch is reduced to the safety limit. v Most of the horses engaged to-morrow raced last Saturday. With the first day’s form to guide them, investors should have an enjoyable day’s sport. Horses in form include:— ILO a.m.—Eastbourne Handicap: Rowan McCoy, Sandyetta, Roderick Dhu. 11.45 a.m.—Discovery Handicap: First Division—Artless, Alcove, Kublai Khan. Second Division—Desert Flight, Nebula, Uranium. 12.30 p.m.—Belmont’ Handicap: Lady Mavourneen, Great Wonder, Novacord. 1.20 p.m.—Port Nicholson Handicap: Whipster, Sea Craft, Victory Globe. 2.10 p.m.—H. J. Palmer Memorial Handicap: Dictation, Roderick Dhu, Rowan McCoy. 3.0 p.m.—Taita Handicap: Uranium, Desert Flight, Loyal Scott. 3.50 p.m.—Dominion Challenge Stakes: Black Diamond, Morano, Vedettq, 4.40 p.m.—Kia Ora Handicap: Lady Averil, Sea Craft, Whipster.
