ATHLETICS

CENTENNIAL GAMES BAILEY AND HARRIS TO COMPETE E. McDonald Bailey, who comes from Trinidad and was chosen to represent Britain at the Olympic Games, has signified his willingness to compete at the centennial games to be held in Christchurch in December, 1950, and January, 1951, if he can obtain the consent of the British Amateur Athletic Board to his making the trip. Bailey holds the British amateur 100 yards and 220 yards records, and was the crack sprinter in England during the 1947-48 season. Bailey will not be eligible to take part in the Empire Games because of a decision that only athletes born in England will be eligible to compete as representatives of Englanti. Another world-famed athlete who is anxious to make a trip to the Centennial Games is the sprint cyclist, Reg. Harris, who represented Britain at the Olympic Games. Harris won four heats and semifinals and finished second to M. Ghella (Italy) in the 1000 metres, and, with A. Bannister as a partner, finished second to Italy in the 2000 metres tandem sprint.
