NON-DOLLAR PETROL FOR AUSTRALIA

ADEQUATE SUPPLIES SAID TO BE AVAILABLE (Rec. 9 p.m.) SYDNEY, November 7. “I am surprised at the Government going ahead with petrol rationing, In view of the availability of non-dollar petrol," said Mr J. C. Duncan, associate director of Ampol. Ltd., who returned by air from London to-day after negotiating the purchase of 9,000.000 gallons of French petrol. Mr Duncan said he was expressing his own opinion, based on personal observation. The Government might have information which he did not possess. So far as he knew, there was enough non-dollar petrol available from various sources to avoid rationing. French sellers had assured him that the petrol they offered had no dollar content, said Mr Duncan. This petrol would be shipped in his company’s own tankers, and would reach Australia before Christmas.
